A Revolutionary Charcoal

Most of the charcoal sold in Cambodia originates from trees harvested in the Phnom Aural Wildlife Sanctuary and the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary. In these areas, charcoal production is the main driver of forest degradation and deforestation, where entire forest areas are cleared by illegally logging trees destined to be processed into charcoal.

This video showcases how the social enterprise OTAGO has developed sustainable charcoal using biomass waste, such as coconut shells and tree plantations residues.
